Feature Spotlight – Kimberly Akimbo (July–August)
Best Musical winner of 5 Tony Awards Kimberly Akimbo is an all-new Australian entry which finally came into the Australian world of theatre shows on March 12, 2023, at the Playhouse at the Arts Centre Melbourne.
This offbeat coming of age story takes place in the late 90s in New Jersey, where a teenager Kimberly has a rare condition that causes her to age very fast. Balancing life with a dysfunctional family, drama at high school and her mortality, Kimberly goes off on a comic and touching adventure involving forgery, friendship and a wild attempt at the most ambitious project of all.

Starring:
- Casey Donovan
- Marina Prior
- Christie Whelan Browne
This year one of the most eagerly awaited musicals is being directed by Mitchell Butel in association with State Theatre Company South Australia.
🎭 Don’t miss it from 26 July to 30 August 2025.
Powerful Revival – The Removalists (March–April)
The Removalists is the breakthrough Australian play by David Williamson which went on to become a monument of Australian Theatre, and now, it is back, more relevant than ever. This is a 1971 satirical film that has deconstructed the concepts of authority, violence, and toxic masculinity in a Melbourne police station. With the characters falling apart due to the strain, the play raises some uncomfortable questions regarding authority and responsibility.
Here is why it matters now:
In the current days of international focus on institutional abuse and gendered violence, The Removalists has been more devastating than ever. Being directed by Anne-Louise Sarks with Steve Mouzakis as Sergeant Simmonds in his role, this revival will cause debate and contemplation.
🗓 Catch it from 11 March to 17 April 2025 at Southbank Theatre’s Sumner.
